If you have a coffee-related story, poem, art or photo, please read the guidelines below. They’re really simple. If you mess them up, we doubt we’ll be able to publish you, so just go have a cup of coffee, calm down, and try again.
CoffeeBeanShop is an online coffee shop/magazine which gives voice to the mean beans which we consume. We can only hope our readership is as thoughtful, intelligent, widely read, and appreciative of ideas and writing of the highest quality as our writers have proven to be in the past.
With that in mind, we seek thoughtful, well-researched articles and insightful fiction, reviews and poetry on the topic of coffee, coffee culture, coffee consumption, coffee markets, coffee…well, you get the idea. And, the news or information doesn’t need to be positive, as we know about the troubles in the coffee industry today.
Unfortunately, we cannot pay at this time for any writing or artwork/photography. However, we’ll be happy to give you a link to your site and/or contact information. We might conduct contests in the future where you may have a chance to make enough money to call your best friend in Columbia for fresh beans.
Although we take ourselves with a grain of sugar and a dollop of cream, we appreciate seriousness (however, humor is accepted). We welcome your interest and provide the following submission guidelines:
Nonfiction: General interest, profiles, book excerpts (prior to publication), essays. Preferred length is 1,000-5,000 words.
Columns/Departments: Personal experience and observation, humor, travel, etc. These columns will be developed as material is accepted. Preferred length is 700 - 1,000 words.
Fiction: Send complete manuscript inline with your email. Preferred length is 700 - 5,000 words.
Poetry: Submit maximum of 3 to 5 poems. No epics, please.
Book reviews: Our reviews go beyond summarizing and assessing the book; they provide thoughtful insight into the subject matter (which, of course, is about coffee OR about writing).
Coffee Breaks: Cartoons, interesting or amusing coffee facts, expressions, etc.
Please enclose a brief bio about yourself, your interest in coffee, and a brief writing or professional history.
Please Note: The surest way for a writer to determine whether his or her material is right for us is to look at our web site. Please note: ALL SUBMISSIONS MUST BE WITHIN EMAIL TEXT. ABSOLUTELY NO ATTACHMENTS!!! Emails which contain attachments will be deleted as soon as they hit the mailbox. Zap. You’re gone.
Photographs and artwork: If at all possible, we would prefer to “pick up” your artwork or photos from an uploaded file on your Website. If not possible, we’ll be happy to accept copies of your work through snail mail. Please do not send originals or attachments with emails. If you have questions or if you are sending snail mail, please contact us.
IN BRIEF:
CoffeeBeanShop.com is not responsible for the return or loss of submissions. Surface mail submissions must be accompanied by a self-addressed envelope bearing adequate return postage. Email submissions will be acknowledged within two weeks of submission.
